Frequently Asked Questions
by Admin User - Sunday, 31 March 2013, 08:08 PM

Is your school accredited?

Gateway Prep Academy’s curriculum and teaching methods are based on existing successful alternative education programs. Gateway Prep Academy’s accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is in process. We are using the LAUSD Diploma Plus model (a California State Board of Education approved diploma program), which enables students to earn their diploma on time or early, regardless of how deficient the student is in high school credits.

Do GPA students meet district and state proficiency standards for graduation?

Yes. Students must meet all district and state requirements for graduation,
including the California High School Exit Exam, just as they would at any high school in California.

How much does your program cost?

Full student tuition is $125 per month. Our goal is to provide a private school environment that’s affordable, two things which rarely go together. Gateway Academy is not funded through any public or federal funds; all expenses are paid through student tuition and private donations. We are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization; donations are tax-deductible and allow us to offer work/study programs and scholarships to students with financial needs.

Can GPA students return to high school?

That’s the plan! For many students, our program is a non-traditional way of re-joining the traditional education system. Our major focus is to capture at-risk students, give them a chance to recover credits, and either return to the mainstream educational system or graduate with us. Credits earned at GPA are fully transferable to local area high schools and adult education facilities.
Students may attend GPA for educational assistance while simultaneously attending another high school. Everything we do is designed to aid the local school districts; we’re in cooperation, not competition.

Call us at 424.731.7268 and request a personalized conference. We will assess the student’s interest and existing high school credits, and design a plan tailored to meet the needs of the student (both educational and vocational).
Our curriculum is competency-based, creating an easy entry/easy exit enrollment. However, we have a limited number of spaces, and enrollment is based on availability. You should contact us as soon as possible to ensure a
space is reserved for you.

Let's do something to help
by Admin User - Sunday, 31 March 2013, 08:05 PM

At 700,000 students strong, Los Angeles has the second largest school district in the nation. Every year thousands of students drop out of school, and the existing programs (which has been severely cut back) can help only a small
fraction of them.
What are we doing about it?
Gateway Prep Academy (GPA) is a non-profit, private, independent study program. Our special focus is serving
students who are at risk of not graduating due to diverse circumstances. GPA enables these students to make up
missing credits and earn a high school diploma or equivalency certificate. We cover the following situations:
1. Drop-out recovery
2. Credit recovery
3. GED preparation
4. Accelerated degree completion
5. High school exit exam preparation (CAHSEE)
6. Tutoring
7. Computer skills training
8. Summer bridge (preparation for high school)
Enrolling in GPA gives students a customized independent study program which allows them to advance at their own
pace. Students may receive instruction in basic academic skills, high school subjects, and computer skills training.
We have online course study options, blended online and face-to-face independent study.
